Tested, Re-Tested...and Tested Again
Along with the decade and season replay managers, more than 80 seasons (with more coming) of special manager “cards” are available for use. These cards are individual “representations” of the actual managers used over those 80 years and are designed to work with specially-programmed managers when managing teams. Users simply go into the Advanced Draft module and add the individual cards to the actual team being managed. You then assign a specially-programmed manager who “reads” the individual cards when making decisions. In addition to the above replay and draft managers, The Digital Skybox offers a complete set of more thant two dozen Hall of Fame Managers for use. Each manager is programmed to imitate the strategies of the actual historic manager they were named after. Managers like Casey Stengel, John McGraw, Connie Mack and others are available. Recently added to the collection were the just inducted managers Joe Torre, Tony La Russa and Bobby Cox. Most of the managers are designed for AIM only replays but there are a handful of non-AIM versions as well. Note: The managers are not recommended for draft play but users can obviously choose to do so. Please run some test or practice games to see how they handle your roster. For more information on these managers or to place an order, check the column to the left. The various options - Hall of Fame, Online Managers, Complete Managers Flash Drive - are detailed to the left. Just click any photo icon to be taken to the order page. Remember as well that updates and revised versions of these managers come with any purchase. One free year of updates are included.
Manager’s Cards
The Digital Skybox managers collection includes a wide variety of computer managers that are compatible with both Miller Associates’ Baseball for Windows games (all versions) as well as APBA, International, Inc.’s Baseball for Windows 5.75. Note: The programs are not affiliated with any game company. Among the most popular programs are replay managers (decade and season specific) that can be used for any historic replay, from 1876 games up through the 2022 MLB season and every season in between. These replay managers include both AIM and non-AIM versions. Each of these programs include small “bio” text files explaining their purpose and design. Many of these programs are periodically updated or revised and available for download. Along with the variety of replay managers (more details about are below), a mix of more than 60 draft league or “mixed” roster managers are available. There are draft league managers designed for modern seasons as well as pre-war years and even several managers programmed for deadball era draft rosters. Additionally, all-star or “best of” managers, created to manage all time historic rosters are also available. Numerous specialized or unique managers including those progammed for Japanese and Negro leagues play have been made. A handful of minor league managers (replay mostly but can be used in a draft league) round out the collection. As with the replay managers both AIM and non-AIM versions have been made. All of the managers have been extensively tested using a mix of APBA official disks, BJE/FPE imports, Bill Staffa’s Skeetersoft disks and, in some cases, home made disks. Free downloadable updates to many of the managers are made available as well. Improvements are constantly being made. The replay managers are programmed with no specific style or approach in mind (except for general eras such as deadball, modern, et cetera). Instead, they are designed to adjust their strategies and approach based on the specific rosters they are assigned to manage. A team, for example, with very little speed and few base stealers will use a plodding, big inning type approach. Another roster, meanwhile, having multiple base stealers and not much power, on the other hand, will be more aggressive on the base paths. Similarly, teams with deep bullpens will see a quicker hook being used over a team with a thinner pen. So, one manager designed to handle a specific decade or half-decade will not manage the same way with each team; he’ll change based on the team being assigned to.
The Digital Skybox 2025 Managers’ Flash Drive includes more than 1,000 managers and manager’s cards as well as more than 60 draft league managers, over two dozen Hall of Fame programs plus dozens of season and decade replay managers, AIM and non-AIM. The Digital Skybox 2025 Online Managers edition is an online downloadable version of the above managers’ drive. The managers can be downloaded in bulk (one large zipped file) or individually. The 2025 edition includes a user friendly text- based version where managers can be downloaded by name. Managers are grouped by purpose or design such as Deadball Era or 1980s Era or Modern Draft, et cetera. Simply select the manager you want by na me and download.
